I’ll be making special “Precautions Against Fanatics”(1969)

A True Fanatic

This is one of Werner Herzog’s easiest works to get interested in and one of the most accessible to anyone who hasn’t seen his innovative and often times incomprehensible style. Continuing in his obsession with the obsessions of others Herzog follows along a series of fanatics at a derby. This is again in the vain of the mockumentary style providing serval very funny moments throughout the film. At the core of this short is a begging question, just what seperates the fanatical from the passionate. It would seem that Herzog would suggest that to be truely passionate about anything, however obsurd it may be, one must be just a little fanatical. This is accesible to anyone interested in Herzog’s work but will most likely play/be humorous to more German sensibilities.
